Every day, Heartland Hospice receives thanks for the care they have provided to a patient or someone’s loved one. Many say they don’t have the words to describe their appreciation and simply say “Thanks.” Recently, Heartland Hospice Serving the Grand Strand recently received a thank you letter from the daughter of a patient expressing her gratitude for the wonderful care her father received.
I want to express my deepest gratitude for the care you gave my father during his final days. You took the time to know him and listened as he tried to express his wishes. You spent so much time with him, never rushing away to someone else.
Three days prior to my father passing, I will never forget him asking me if it would be okay with us if he got better each day so he could walk out of the hospital and resume his normal life. Your explanations of what he was experiencing helped us understand and move through the process. Seeing my father re-live the war was so difficult, but I believe in the end he was able to quiet those awful memories.
The nurses called us in the middle of the night to say that it would be soon. We immediately went to be with him. When we arrived, three nurses were sitting with him so that he would not be alone if he were to pass before we arrived. Their caring hearts were an amazing gift to our family. His final hours were peaceful and with the help of your co-worker, who never let go of his hand and spoke softly to him, he drifted away.
My knowledge of hospice was limited prior to this. I cannot express enough how privileged I am now to have met you and your team. You have been blessed with a special gift and I thank you for sharing it with us.
With deepest appreciation,
Hilary, Leonard’s daughter"
