Heartland Hospice serving North Central Illinois and Southern Wisconsin delivered handmade Valentine’s Day cards to local veterans to help them celebrate the holiday.
Heartland wanted to participate in the Department of Veteran Affairs’ National Salute to Veteran Patients Program, which starts the week of February 14 each year. The team reached out to their community and collected over 1,500 valentine cards made by local students from preschool through high school. They delivered the handmade cards to over 500 local veterans living in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
Janine Idstein, veteran-focused care transition coordinator, reached out to teachers in Rockford, Belvidere, Roscoe and Rockton. “The teachers said their students enjoyed making valentines for our veterans. Community efforts like this remind our veterans that they are not forgotten and always appreciated.”
As a Level Five partner in the We Honor Veterans program, Heartland Hospice serving North Central Illinois and Southern Wisconsin is proud to honor and recognize veterans throughout the year with programs like Valentines for Veterans.
