Laughter The Life Change You Need

Insightful Caregiver a balance blog series

Laughter might just be the most contagious of all emotional experiences, according to “Psychology Today.” Laughter isn’t usually a voluntary reaction, but your involuntary reaction to something humorous. Believe it or not, laughter has many health benefits too, including relieving tension and anxiety, boosting your mood, aiding your immune system and increasing circulation. Also, a good ole belly laugh just feels good.

If you feel like you need a little laughter in your life, there are some ways to make that happen:

  • Spend time with children. Their innocence and inexplicable desire to laugh at life’s simplicity is almost guaranteed to activate your funny bone.
  • Learn to laugh at yourself. No one is perfect. We all do silly things. While it can be embarrassing, embarrassment is…well…funny!
  • Seek out comedy. Visit a comedy show or watch comedy movies. Revisit some of your favorite classic movies to bring back the memories of laughing fits in years past.
  • Write down funny memories. In a few years you can remember the moments and laugh again, or share them in detail with family and friends.
  • Try something new with your funniest friends. Uncertainty in itself has a humor element. If you know how to laugh at yourself, new experiences with your closest and most humorous friends are guaranteed to bring about laughter.
  • Make a list of activities that make you laugh and smile. Do those activities more often.

No one can have “too much” laughter.

When we hear others laugh, we are more likely to laugh. Regardless of our culture, dialect or where we live, we all have one thing in common. We laugh, and we enjoy laughing. It bonds us. It forms the base of friendships. It has immense health benefits. No one can have “too much” laughter in their lives. Find a few minutes to incorporate laughter. A few minutes to relax and feel the positive side of every situation. Smile more and laugh often. You will feel the change in your life.
