Steve admitted to ManorCare for skilled nursing and intensive therapy following an amputation of his left foot.
"I had an infection in my foot and every treatment I tried failed to help me heal. That is when I found out I was a diabetic. My doctor recommended I have an amputation. I had my surgery at AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital Elgin, and the surgery went well, but I needed a lot of rehabilitation. After surgery I was taken to AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Rehabilitation Hospital Elk Grove Village. I was also going to receive a prosthetic foot, but had to wait for my surgical site to heal and to regain strength. I wasn't ready to return home alone after acute rehab, so I chose ManorCare Health Services - Elk Grove Village for my next level of rehab. I had members of my family at ManorCare over the years and the experience was always positive. My therapy went extremely well at ManorCare. My physical therapist was John. He showed me so many methods of strengthening my legs and because ManorCare has a wide range of equipment, I was able to get on track fast. Sara was my occupational therapist, she helped me a lot with balance. That was something I really needed to focus on. What helped me recover the most was the team approach from all the staff. Alma and Pat were my CNAs, they are so caring and so positive. My nurses, Loida and Sheri, went above and beyond for me. Loida often went to the kitchen to get me a different meal if I needed it. She made time for me and was always supportive. I have my prosthetic foot now, It’s called a Meridium foot.
Thanks to all the staff at ManorCare, I will return to my normal life soon. ManorCare - Elk Grove Village is somewhere I would highly recommend for excellent therapy and nursing care." - Steve, ManorCare patient
